Our advice for optimising your vehicle's electric charging

Electric cars are ideal for short everyday journeys. But perhaps you're still hesitating about longer journeys? Autonomy, recharging station, payment, type of plug... we explain everything you need to know to drive smoothly and silently and rediscover the pleasure of travelling with Fulli services.

Even if your electric car only has a range of 250 km, that's more than enough to travel far, even on the motorway. 100% of service areas on the APRR and AREA networks are equipped with fast and ultra-fast charging points. You're sure to find a charging point every 30 km or so.

Whether you're driving an internal combustion engine or an electric car, you'll need to take a break every 2 hours. Take advantage of this moment of relaxation at a service area to recharge your electric car.

Depending on the power rating of your electric car, you'll need around 30 minutes to achieve 80% autonomy and energy to set off again with peace of mind.

The Fulli app will guide you to the service area of your choice. It gives you all the information you need in real time about charging points for electric cars: availability, power and tariffs. It also lists the 85,000 electric charging points available on all roads in France and the 245,000 in Europe.

Before you leave, you've filled up at home, but if you're travelling far away, a payment card is essential for recharging your vehicle and accessing all the charging points available.

Charging modes and plug types: not all electric cars are configured in the same way.

The higher the charging power, the faster the charging speed. You should choose your electric charging point according to the electrical power accepted by your vehicle's battery. Bear in mind that if the charging point exceeds this power, the vehicle will automatically limit the energy supply.

With recharging solutions every 30 km along the 2,320 km of the APRR and AREA networks, including 4 to 20 very high-power recharging points (150 to 350 kW) per recharging station, Fulli makes electric recharging easy.

There are also 3 types of plug:

- Type 2 socket (between 7 and 11 kW for a domestic socket and up to 22 kW at a public charging point),

- CHAdeMO socket, up to 100 kW,

- Combo CCS socket, up to 350 kW.

All types of socket are available at 100% of our networks' service areas.

Adopt eco-driving. According to the French Ministry for Ecological Transition, this can save up to 40% in fuel consumption and therefore allow you to drive 40% more kilometres. Drive at 110 km/h rather than 130 km/h on the motorway, check tyre pressure and avoid accelerating and decelerating too close together - in short, drive more "zen".

The weight of your electric car and luggage also affects range, so it's important not to overload. Roof boxes also increase fuel consumption.

Don't charge your electric car to 100%, but to 80-90%. Don't drive until the battery is completely drained; recharge it when you're close to 20%. The battery will be less stressed and will last longer.

While rapid recharging is practical on long journeys, it should not be abused, as the battery will suffer. Prefer low-power recharging (20 to 50 kWh) during long stops to protect your battery.

Finally, avoid excessive use of air conditioning or heating, as the battery in your electric car is very sensitive to heat and cold. It works best between 20°C and 25°C.

The temperature of the battery is directly correlated to the charging speed. When it's very hot, or the opposite in winter, the charging power is slowed down and the charging time increased.

Comfort, lower maintenance costs, conversion allowance, cost of energy per km - all these arguments have convinced you to prefer the electric motor. But travelling 0-carbon is also an opportunity to adopt a calmer, more relaxed lifestyle.
