The first Chèques-Vacances (vacation vouchers) were introduced in 1982 and gradually extended to all French employees. Set up by the French government through the Agence Nationale pour les Chèques-Vacances (ANCV), they are designed to encourage vacationing, particularly by the less well-off, through employer contributions. They can be used throughout the year at hotels, vacation clubs, campsites, restaurants, trains, airplanes, amusement parks, museums, etc. and, of course, at toll booths.

 From the first paper denominations of €10 to €50, ANCV introduced the electronic Chèque-Vacances in the 2000s, offering a more practical alternative to paper Chèques-Vacances and facilitating online payment. Since September 2020, the Chèque-Vacances is dematerialized and becomes the "Chèques-Vacances Connect".

To be used at toll booths, Connect vacation vouchers must be credited to a Liber-t-Vacances account.
