The A69, Occitanie’s first free-flowing highway
The A69 connects Toulouse to Castres via the A68 and Verfeil. A new route through the heart of southwestern France, winding through the landscapes of the Lauragais, the Pays de Cocagne, and the Montagne Noire, offering a chance to discover all the treasures of the Tarn.
The A69: A new way to travel between Toulouse and Castres
Scheduled to open on November 6, 2026, the A69 highway connects Verfeil to Castres, extending the A68 from Toulouse.
Spanning 53 kilometers, including 44 kilometers of new road and 9 kilometers of upgraded existing sections, it provides a 2×2-lane connection that facilitates daily travel and improves access to the southern Tarn region.
The A69 is also the first highway in Occitanie equipped with a free-flow toll system. There’s no longer any need to stop at a toll gate: vehicles travel normally under gantries that automatically detect their passage.
With a Fulli electronic toll tag, payment is processed automatically, with no additional steps required after the trip.
For a Class 1 gasoline-powered vehicle, the base rate is €8.50 to travel on the A69 between Verfeil and Castres. Special offers for regular users and discounts for vehicles with very low emissions allow drivers to benefit from preferential rates.

Along the A69: The Tarn’s Heritage Treasures
Puylaurens, in the heart of the Pays de Cocagne, a journey through history, pastel landscapes, and exceptional panoramic views

Perched high above the Tarn River, Puylaurens boasts a remarkable historical heritage and magnificent panoramic views of the Lauragais plain, the Montagne Noire, and, on a clear day, the Pyrenees.
A former fortified town and a major center of the woad trade, which brought wealth to the Pays de Cocagne, Puylaurens invites visitors to stroll through its ancient alleyways, discover its half-timbered houses, its ramparts, and the traces of its Protestant past.
The town is also known as the birthplace of Marianne, the symbol of the French Republic, whose name first appeared in 1792 in a song written by Guillaume Lavabre, a native of the town.
A charming and historic stopover, well worth a visit off the A69.
Castres, the “Little Venice of Languedoc,” a city of art and history along the Agout River

At the foot of the Montagne Noire, Castres charms visitors with its architectural heritage, lively narrow streets, and the typical Occitan way of life.
The colorful houses overlooking the Agout River, once home to tanners, weavers, and dyers, are emblematic of the city and offer a picturesque setting that has earned it the nickname “Little Venice of Languedoc.”
In the heart of the historic center, the Goya Museum, housed in the former episcopal palace, features a remarkable collection of Spanish art. Just a short walk away, the Jardin de l’Évêché, designed by André Le Nôtre, is a delightful place to stroll.
With its heritage, culture, gastronomy, and proximity to the landscapes of the Sidobre, Castres is an ideal destination for a getaway in the Tarn.
