Electric vehicle sales hit a new record high

Sales of electric vehicles reached a new record at the end of 2025, driven by more affordable models, increased range, and a rapidly expanding charging network.

A new record for electric vehicle sales: where does the market stand?

Recent trends in electric vehicle registrations in France

In recent years, electric vehicle registrations in France have grown steadily, with an acceleration since 2020. This sustained growth can be explained by a combination of several factors: increased government subsidies, diversification of available models, and growing environmental awareness among motorists. Electric vehicles are now gaining ground, with 47,776 registrations and a 29.5% market share in November 2025, according to a study by Avere France.

List of the main factors explaining this growth

  • Stronger financial incentives: the extension of purchase assistance schemes, combined with partial tax exemptions and preferential parking rates in certain municipalities, is making electric vehicles more affordable for a growing number of households.
  • Expansion of the range of models available: manufacturers now offer a more varied range of vehicles covering different segments (city cars, SUVs, utility vehicles), allowing motorists to choose a model suited to both their everyday needs and long journeys.
  • Improved performance and range: new generations of batteries offer better range and shorter charging times, boosting confidence in the use of electric vehicles on highways.
  • Densification of the charging network: the accelerated rollout of charging stations is making long-distance travel easier.
  • Fewer barriers to use: electric models are now more widely accepted and raise fewer concerns.
  • Environmental awareness and regulations : the desire to reduce carbon footprints, combined with stricter CO₂ emission standards and low-emission zones in large cities, is encouraging drivers to turn to cleaner mobility solutions.

Buyer profiles

The profile of electric vehicle buyers is diversifying, combining private individuals and corporate fleet managers. In November 2025, 49.21% of electric vehicle buyers were private individuals, representing a 10-point increase compared to August 2025. Households favor versatile vehicles that can handle both everyday commutes and vacation trips, with a particular focus on overall budget (cost of use, maintenance, energy). Companies, for their part, are gradually electrifying their fleets to reduce emissions, meet regulatory requirements, and optimize operating costs. They are looking for centralized tools to track consumption, simplify billing, and standardize charging practices for their employees.

Why are drivers turning to electric vehicles?

The economic advantages and performance of electric cars

The economic advantages of using an electric vehicle are becoming a decisive factor for many drivers. In the long term, the cost per kilometer is generally lower than that of a combustion engine vehicle, thanks to a more stable and often lower energy price than traditional fuels. The recharge card allows you to benefit from clearly displayed rates, offers tailored to the frequency of your trips, and accurate consumption tracking, making it easier to control your budget. Added to this is reduced maintenance: fewer moving mechanical parts, no oil changes or clutches, all of which limit trips to the garage and help to reduce running costs. In addition, 42% of French people believe that electric vehicles perform better than combustion engines, particularly in terms of driving comfort, according to a study by IFOP and Roole.

Environmental benefits: reduction in CO₂ emissions and local pollutants

In addition to driving comfort and savings, motorists contribute to reducing direct CO₂ emissions related to their travel. Furthermore, electric vehicles do not emit local pollutants from their exhaust pipes, which improves air quality along the busiest routes, particularly near large urban areas and low-emission zones.

Market share on the rise, but drivers still perceive obstacles

The main obstacles perceived by drivers still relate to the availability, compatibility, and payment of charging, particularly on long-distance journeys. Many motorists fear not finding a free charging station when they need one, or having to change their route because a station is temporarily out of service. The multitude of connector standards and charging networks can also raise questions: not all charging points are necessarily compatible with every vehicle model or operator, which creates a feeling of uncertainty when planning a trip. Added to this is the perceived complexity of payment methods: different apps for different networks, the need to create multiple accounts, and variable rates depending on power or charging time. Integrated solutions such as the Fulli charging card help to overcome these obstacles by offering simplified access to a network of 480,000 charging stations in Europe, unified payment management, and greater visibility on availability and costs before even hitting the road, which boosts drivers' confidence in electric mobility on a daily basis and on the highway.

In summary

The electric car market in France is entering a phase of gradual maturity, with an increasing number of vehicles on the road and a growing presence in all price segments. Drivers are no longer limiting themselves to urban journeys: electric vehicles are now considered true travel companions for weekend getaways and vacations.
